Stuart Smith has qualified for the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association British Finals in his first year of competing. He finished second in the NABBA North East championships. An amateur bodybuilder from Pontefract will flex his competitive muscles in a top national event at the weekend. Dad-of-two Stuart Smith, 32, will compete in the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association (NABBA) British finals in Southport on Saturday. He reached the finals after finishing second in his class in NABBA’s north east regional heat – the first time he had ever taken part in a competiton.

The top six at the national finals are then eligible to take part in the Mr Universe competition. Mr Smith, of Kipling Grove, said: “I never expected to do so well to be honest. I will be on the stage with the best bodybuilders in Britain. “If I come in the top six I will be competing for Mr Universe, which would just be amazing.” Mr Smith, who is a construction worker for British Gas, started training at the Asylum Gym in Selby 15 years ago.

Second Time's a Charm: The 2013 NABBA Mr. Britain (short class) was then 32 year old Stuart Smith from Pontefract, West Yorkshire (home of the cakes), in only his second competitive contest. Smith went on to finish 6th at the 2013 NABBA Universe, in a class won by Aussie Lee Priest. With two young children watching their dad onstage with a superhuman physique, training with superhuman weights, one day they may want to emulate what they see and make the choice to step onstage themselves as the grow up. He would give 100% support if either of them wanted to compete. A lifestyle of a bodybuilder can be a healthy one and if successful it can take you around the world and back.

The life of a competitive bodybuilder with aspirations of improving each day whilst still working and balancing everything else is very difficult. He's very lucky to have the support of a great family that understands what he has to go through to achieve the goals. His diet is very strict, he eat every 3 hours & everything is weighed out turkey, sweet pot, broccoli etc it’s really quite as basic as that. Consistency is the rule of thumb when dieting.
